Dear all, thank you...

Never before have we changed so much in so little time. To all of you who are putting up posters, planning events, tournaments, and teaching classes, I would like to thank you for all that you do - each and every moment you spend with us is invaluable.

It is also with great pride that I write this letter on behalf of Adam, our founder and visionary, who has entrusted me to guide the YDL youth division in the following years. Without him, there would be no classes, tournaments, or even the website that you are looking at right now. YDL has changed in the past year more than anyone would have imagined 3 or 4 years ago, but I know that the vision of the founding executive team still resonates within our organization today, and with future generations of leadership. I wish the best of luck to Adam as he pursues YDL at the college level in the future.

To our graduates, goodbye...

Many senior staff, coaches, and executives who created the very concept of global debate education are leaving in search of higher education. It is with sadness that I bid farewell, and we will never be quite the same without each and every one of you. But I also know that your pursuit of excellence will never flicker, and we will meet again at the top. It is an honor that you chose to be a part of our story, and a pleasure for us to have been part of yours. Whatever you found with YDL, whether that was friends, experience, or just volunteering hours, I hope you treasure it.

As I write this additional paragraph, I smile knowing that some of you will remain with us. I cannot express my gratitude for you who choose to continue spearheading YDL's mission. Your experiences are priceless to guide our growth; I cannot wait to speak with all of you and evolve this organisation.

Our future, together...

The future is uncertain, but YDL will adapt. 5 years ago, free debate coaching was in its infancy. Small groups existed as a nebulous entity, never receiving the resources and support they needed to truly prosper. At that time, we were uncertain if a coalition could even exist given the isolation of debating organizations and the lack of past success. Today, we know it can succeed, YDL has grown from a moonshot idea in the living room of a few high schoolers to a worldwide coalition of dedicated debaters, coaches, and educators. The question today is not what the limit is, but what we can do to shatter those expectations and accomplish what has never been done before. I urge you, whoever you are, to reach out to us and work together to be part of something greater.

As a youth-led non-profit, the biggest challenge was always to generate a belief in our mission. Frankly, the economies of scale we access today were hard fought and won. - coaches exist in a limited amount, as do the social support that is necessary for our survival. In a world where debating is localised to wealthy, developed English-speaking nations, YDL seeks to recognise that privilege and share the gift of debate across the globe. To do this, we need every debating group, coaching team, and school club to help us - but we understand that we need to earn your trust first.

YDL prides itself on fulfilling its promises, creating long-term relationships, and respecting individuals as leaders and decision makers. Through this attitude, we were able to generate trust, the currency that allowed us to grow beyond a dream. Today, dozens of schools, clubs, and on-the-ground groups trust us to fight for the best collective future for everyone. It is my honor to receive that trust, and my pride that I can continue to earn it with each and every individual in the global debating community.
